The sweater that wouldn’t have happened without Cecily Glowik MacDonald

Cecily and I have collaborated on a few projects now: New England Knits, Weekend Hats, Wool One, Two, Three, Four and now Five (more one that one in my next post). She’s been there with me in the hospital for the birth of both of my daughters, which was an amazing gift already. But, when I was having my daughter Viviane this year, she said that she wanted to knit the sample for my next adult sweater design, a fingering-weight cardigan. This was the best, best, gift, because as a mama who supports herself with knitting design work, my knitting time was going to disappear fast with 2 children under 2.5 at home.

So this, my newest sweater, would never have happened without Cecily’s thoughtful gift, and you know that she has plenty of knitting of her own to do!

So, here is Willard, a top-down, open-front cardigan, in Quince’s fingering-weight yarn, Finch. the wide collar is picked up after knitting the body and features a reversible knit/purl arrow pattern on the long fronts that can lay flat or be folded back.

The pattern has a generous range of sizes and is 25% off until September 12th!

See it on ravelry here!

I have a new pattern out, sized from baby to adult: Viv Bonnet

It’s 25% off until the end of June 2014. No code required.

Also, I’ve been trying lots of fun new needles and gadgets lately, and I thought I’d share a few with you. Leave a comment below, telling me what you want to knit this summer, and I’ll pick a random commenter to win the 3 needle sets in the picture. They’re some of my current favorites, Knitter’s Pride Cubix, and Karbonz. Comments are open until the end of June 2014. I’ll pick a winner using a random number generator. I’ll ship to any country. The comments are moderated on this blog, thanks to spam, so yours may not show up immediately, but it will eventually!

Good Luck!

And baby makes 4!

image

On April 17th, at 2 weeks overdue, our daughter Viviane was finally born (at 9lbs, 3oz!) Life is settling into its new normal, and we’re thrilled that our 2 yr old, Stella, is also in love with this sweet baby girl.
I’ve given myself a bit of a maternity leave, so I’ll be available a bit less via email for another week or two.

From Mama, With Love

I am still pregnant, though my due date was 3 days ago. As I wait for my baby girl’s arrival, let’s talk about something else!

I was lucky enough to be a part of a really sweet little collection with 4 other designer/mama friends recently, and it’s finally available for purchase! From Mama, With Love is a baby and little kid collection featuring 15 patterns from me, Tanis Gray, Kate Gagnon Osborn, Margaux Hufnagel and Connie Chang Chinchio. It’s especially exciting because as mothers who make a living from knitting designs, we often end up with very little time to knit for our own children. This collection gave us an opportunity to design for our children, yet still write patterns.

The collection is only available as an ebook (a 50 page pdf) until 10/1/14, when the ebook option (which saves a great deal on the overall cost) will disappear and the patterns will only be available individually.

Above is just a preview of all the patterns in the collection. You can see them all and purchase the collection here.

The collection is going on an exciting blog tour, won’t you follow along?

new baby/toddler pattern (but no baby)

DSC_0019DSC_0002

Well, yesterday was the due date for my baby girl, but I’m still pregnant. I celebrated the day by releasing a new sweater for littles, in sizes from 0-6 months – 5 years. Meet the Sweetest Thing, a top-down, worsted-weight cardigan, suitable for boys or girls. Happy knitting!
